BASIC INFORMATION
Full Name: Charles Jerrold Regius. Nickname(s): Char. Explanation of Name(s): In both the film and book, Prince Char is, in his full name Charmont. Charles is a similar name of which can be shortened to his nickname. Jerrold is the name of his father, in the book not the film. And Regius means "royal" in Latin. As he is of royal blood this seemed appropriate. Age: 21. Date of Birth: 7th October 1476. Occupation: Prince of the Realm. Origin: Prince Charmont » Ella Enchanted (2004) » Cinderella (loosely). APPEARANCE
Play-by: Hugh Dancy. Explanation of Play-by: Hugh Dancy portrayed Prince Charmont in the film version of Ella Enchanted. I saw no reason to change him. General Appearance: Prince Char has, from the age at which he hit puberty, always been considered to be somewhat of a hunk. Not only do girls stare, giggle and, occasionally scream upon seeing him, Char is also hounded for attention by their mothers who hope that a little bonding would set their daughters up well for marrying into the royal family. Therefore and therein, Char has never had a particularly large portion of modesty, when it comes to his looks. He knows for a fair fact that he is a good-looking guy and pleasing to the eye of women.
More specifically, Char's colouring and skin tone come mostly from his father's side of the family. His father, older brother and he all have the same dark brown hair and olive-hued skin, while his mother is blonde and blue eyed like his sister. It is thought to be from that side of the family that Char attains his lighter grey eyes and the curls to his hair, so unlike his familial male counterparts'. Unlike his older brother, who keeps his hair short and well-trimmed, Char lets his hair grow out and take those natural curls for several reasons. One, because he can't be bothered to get it cut and two, because his mother constantly wants him to get it cut. Therefore, he takes great measures to run around the palace grounds avoiding the royal hair trimmer and his sheers. His wayward hair style and occasional stubble, however, does not appear to have negated the female reaction to him. So Char sees no reason to change his appearance for conformity's sake. Especially as he is not the one expected to, one day, rule the country.
In terms of body, Char is well built. The height of which he inherited from his father, (making him on equal level with his four year older brother), and breadth of his shoulders compliment each other and his legs are long and hips lean. He is not the most muscular of men and does not tend to "bulk out" - an appearance facet very different from his hulking older sibling. Instead, his muscles are lean, long and strong. He can perform his tasks such as fighting, horse-riding and jousting perfectly well, despite the lack of physical bulk.
Char's face is an attractive one. His thick, angled brows, shading dominant eyes, his nose and his high cheekbones create a very angular face that is masculinely attractive in its sharp lines. This is the same in his jaw and stubborn chin as well as in the sharp slants of a wide and well formed mouth. After generations of breeding with only the best looking people in the royal court, genetics have been good to Char and created a natural appearance to which he needs to do little in the morning.
Instead, Char tends to focus on his wardrobe. As a prince of the realm he has an abundance of clothing to choose from. Though he has his favourite clothes and styles just like anyone, Char attempts to change his clothing every day and to constantly look good. Being adored, screamed at and hungered for by women everywhere he goes has tended to make him a little paranoid about how he looks and what he does. He works hard to be a successful wooer, mingle-r and social entity as his brother has the royal and procedural side down-pat. Instead of following his brother's more sensible line, Char likes to spend his time running around after girls, practising his fighting skills and generally having a good time, enjoying the way people frolic about and simper up to him. PERSONALITY
Likes: » Physical exercise: Char likes to feel tired from physical strain and effort. He hates the idea of sitting on his butt, or on a throne, all day and doing nothing to feel exerted by all the time. Instead, he prefers to be out and about and using his body so that by the time he goes to bed he feels achy; he likes feeling as if he has actually done something, all day. » Reading common papers and pamphlets: Bizarrely, Char enjoys reading gossip and pamphlets that circulate among female audiences. He enjoys knowing what women are thinking and talking about, especially if it refers to him and is untrue. One of his greatest joys is spending an afternoon answering everyone's questions without actually giving away the true answer of whatever rumour was most recent. The look of growing frustration in the courtiers never ceases to amuse him. » Reading in general: Surprisingly Char is actually into reading novels and usually carries one around with him somewhere. Though he enjoys being out in the world and socialising, he's also interested in bigger ideas in science and philosophy. Generally he reads radical ideas and books with an attitude that takes them as an idealistic ideology that doesn't work in the real world; he thinks the moralists in the world are unrealistic despite the fact that he might like to privately agree with them. » Fruit: Char enjoys a healthy diet due to the fact that he likes to train and fight on both horse-back and on foot. This means that eating unhealthily leads to fatigue and stodgy training which he hates. Therefore, and therein, Char will eat a decent diet that consists of a lot of fruit, vegetation and well cured meat. His food is also most likely the most well prepared in the kingdom due to his royal status. He especially likes apples. » Women: Char has an interesting relationship with women. He tends to be a bit of a flirt and is comfortable around women in private, social situation. However, he very much dislikes being the centre of female adoration and doesn't have lover or romantic interludes with as many women as papers and writers like to state. Instead, he has a few discreet relationships in his past, none of which involved more than one woman at a time, and is nonchalant about ever finding a woman with whom he can commit for the rest of his life. Especially as he dislikes his royal lifestyle and responsibilities and dislikes the idea of another bond tying him to respectable behaviour. He likes the idea of being able to do whatever the hell he wants when he wants and having a wife would limit this. Dislikes: » Pompous Courtier Men: Char has a distinct dislike for a lot of the men his age in court. He finds them, and several others older than them, to be overtly flirty and pompous. They have the attitude that, because they have nobility and wealth, they should be allowed to do whatever they want. Char has the belief that he has been born to privilege and good looks which means women come to him, and that means that they need to be treated respectably and with a little pity. Like an animal that has been caught into a trap by its own will, should be treated carefully. Not forced into that trap in the first place. » Screaming Women: Char doesn't exactly have a problem with women screaming at him and wanting to be with him all the time; he's a cocky guy who actually finds this kind of flattering. What frustrates him is the reasons and lengths to which these women go. A) they are usually hoping to become his bride and marry into the royal family, of which he firmly dislikes and B) they tend to get to the point where he will be chased or his personal space invaded, his things stolen for collectors items or the women's servants stalking him in order to report back. It is this behaviour and attitude that Char firmly despises. » Radishes: Char has a firm dislike for this kind of vegetable despite others being the first choice to go to his plate at dinner. » Jesters and Entertainers: Char has never been a fan of the jesters and entertainers that his father keeps in court. His sense of humour is more cynical, sarcastic and a little bit sadistic. Therefore, watching a jester make jokes that are censored for the king's eyes and ears is not something he finds entertaining. Especially as the jokes turn to compliments towards the King, whom Char likes to take the mick out of when he can. » Cleaning or labour tasks: Due to his royal status, of course, Char dislikes menial work. If he was ever asked to do something for a short period of time, he would probably be fine. To do it as a job would irritate and frustrate him and he would be expected to be allowed to take breaks all the time, until he got used to it. » Carriage travel: Char hates being stuck inside carriages with nothing to do. Instead, he far prefers to be riding his horse beside it, just so that he can look about, see the road ahead and take in the landscape, which he finds significantly more worthy of his time than staring at the interior of the royal carriage. Fears: » Char has a few secret fears that are basically wrapped up with his birthright and any responsibilities that may be thrust upon him because of it. Such as the idea that his parents might force him to get married. Or that his brother may, in some way, be killed or decline the throne, leaving him the responsibility to rule. That he will, for some reason be confined to the palace grounds forever and never be allowed to go out and see the world. » Char's other "discomfort" rather than fear, is smart women. The decadent courtiers and uneducated servants, he can handle. But if ever approached by a woman of real intelligence, he tends to either try and make her uncomfortable with a sexy attitude and flirting behaviour or dodges the conversation and avoids her company. Despite the fact that intelligence interests him, it makes him feel uncomfortable because he is used to being the most knowledgeable and most sort out person in the room. » The idea of one day having to grow up and be a responsible adult, in some way scares Char. Though he insists that he is an adult in his own right already and has the ability to choose his own path and make his own decisions he, honestly, has most of his life taken care of for him. He has no knowledge on how it would be to actually look after himself and organise things that have, since his birth, been dealt with for him. Dreams: » Char consistently feels this desire to go out and see the world. To be a part of a world he has had little to do with because of being kept in the palace or royal grounds. » Sword-fighting is one of Char's favourite hobbies. And, because of the number of hours he has put into it, he is very good at it. What frustrates him though, is that his opponents always let him win. Within the last few years, Char has proven that he can beat his older brother - the only man who wouldn't hold back in a fight, and now there isn't a man in the kingdom who wouldn't pull his punches and let him win a fight. Therefore, one of his dreams is to beat a skilled swordsman through his own skill and not through his royal position lending him an advantage. Virtues: » Char is chivalrous. Despite his on-going flirtations with women that don't always lead to anything serious, he does at least treat them with respect, playing the gentleman that is expected of him as a prince of the realm. » Through his fighting training, horse-riding, jousting and healthy diet, Char has a strong and agile build. This means that he can partake in any kind of strenuous exercise or effort without much strain. » Char's physical virtues also extend to a strong and talented ability with a sword and with any form of pole or lance, which he is skilled at whirling, controlling and using as a form of weapon. » Char is a skilled socialiser and speaker. He very much dislikes getting up on stage and making a spectacle of himself as a "Prince" but, when interacting one on one with others, he's good at producing the charisma and charm needed to interact. This means that he does not usually show his real self to people but a social construct of what he should be and how he should act. Flaws: » Char acts a part whenever he is out and about without really realising it. He never opens up or takes serious his responsibilities or the expectations of his father and mother and never analyses himself enough to understand who he is. He's completely childish in the sense that he lives for what is of interest to him and little else. » Though chivalrous, Char is a little backward in the idea that women are the ones who need saving and men are the ones who save them. He would find it very difficult to accept a woman as his equal in any area in his life. » Char can be quite naive. Though he is good at putting on a social face, he is bad at reading the face of others. Therefore, he tends to take everything at face value. Though he's clever when dealing with that information, openly accepting lies can cause issues. » Because Char rarely engages emotionally with people or any aspect of his life, he becomes overtly emotional and childish about those few things he does become attached to. This can cause issues or scenes in the private rooms of the Royal Palace that involve a very sulky Second Son. » Because of his traditional attitude toward women and the fact that he is supposed to act like a prince of the realm, Char has a hero complex. He'll gladly go out of his way to play the gallant prince to the damsel in distress which, though it would amore most women to him, would most likely irritate and annoy more independent women, who feel that they don't need his protection. Skills: » Jousting. » Sword-fighting and lance work. » Playing the "Princely" part. » Deliberately attracting women for fun. » Horse-riding. » Improvised Fighting: making use of what is around him. » Negotiation and diplomacy (undiscovered). Traits: » Char is a dirty yet playful fighter. He'll gladly use his fists and feet in order to beat an opponent, even throwing away a more effective weapon in order to do so if he thinks it'll make the game more fun. Meaning that he doesn't have much care for his own safety and tends to be so overly confident that he's going to win, so doesn't have to worry about it. » When socialising, Char likes to stay aloof and interesting to people, without revealing his true thoughts or nature - he'll say whatever fits best into the conversation and will interest people the most, not what he truly thinks. » Char is not a touchy person. He's perfectly happy to initiate touching other people but prefers people not to approach him. He dislikes anyone invading his personal space without his previous permission or initiation. » He likes to call his siblings by nicknames: Eddie and Lizzy. General Personality: » The Pampered Prince: Char gets whatever it is he wants. This is the way it has been since he was born. It's not because he is ruthless if he doesn't have it or because he forces others to obey his will. It is simply the fact that he is a Prince of the Realm and is therefore treated to whatever his heart desires. This causes him to be a little naive to the real world. If he wants something to happen or someone to do something for him, he takes it for granted that that would, in fact, happen. When presented with the word "No" he becomes a little stroppy and confused that his request has not been answered. » The Bad Boy: Char has a lot of rumours flying whenever he walks into a room. His flirtatious behaviour and gorgeous good-looks lend to perfect social acting mixed in with a hint of innocent naivete making him catnip for women. By entertaining them, occasionally privately and escorting them about, it is no wonder that tongues start to wag. There is a part of Char that likes this in the sense that it gives him a little bit of a reputation and presence separate to that of him simply being "royalty" but also because it is a mask and image that he likes to hide behind so that he doesn't have to confront how frustrating he actually finds his life. But another part of Char is well aware that he himself is not completely like this image. He respects women and rarely sleeps with them. In fact, he feels himself longing for someone who would make him sit up and pay attention. Someone different from the middle aged women wanting their daughters to be queen and the younger women wanting to be in his bed. Someone who actually presents some kind of a challenge. » The Loyal Son and Brother: His bad behaviour and cheeky remarks aside, Char understands fully that he is a Prince of the Realm. And, as such, he has a family that he respects and is expected to obey, as well as a young sister that needs an older brother to rely on. Deep down, Char is a reliable, chivalrous and courageous young man who refuses to let others see the depth to him. For letting out the good, means letting in the bad. HISTORY
Home Town: City of Vienne, the capital of the kingdom. He now, however, resides at the Royal Palace in Fae. Biography: Prince Charles Jerrold Regius was born the second son of the King Jerrold and Queen Lillian of Vienne. His older brother, Edward was and is the perfect heir to be in line to the throne. Tall with close trimmed dark hair, broad shoulders and muscular physique, the male absolutely commands respect. He was also a hard act to follow. Char knew from a young age that he was never going to match up to his fabulous older brother who was perfect for kingship in every way. Instead, he looked towards making a name for himself in other ways. Edward learnt jousting as all royal socialites do. Char practised his sword-fighting. Edward trimmed his hair short. Char let his grow curly. Edward was perfectly shaven every day. Char allowed stubble. In any small way that he could, Char defied what was right and proper because it was what his older brother excelled at. He worked to define himself by how unlike his brother he could be. Similarities, however, were inescapable. Char was held to royal expectation and education and therefore grew up learned, tactful, chivalrous and polite (when he wanted to be); all characteristics he and his older brother share.
An advantage of being the second son, however, was the lack of restraint and restriction. Edward was forced to act in a certain way at all times because he would soon be upon the throne. Char, on the other hand, was left a little more to his own devices, a fact that his parents are now probably blaming on his behaviours. Char is the black sheep of the family and yet fits into the royal cliché. He is the wayward son who seduces women and drinks with his soldiers, while his brother plays the appropriate First Son role and his sister is the meek princess. Therefore, it was soon worked out by courtiers and nobility that Char was the man to speak with if you wanted to extract anything from the royal bank. He was the most approachable and the most likely to allow such scandalous frivolity.
Char's reputation proceeded him when the royal family relocated their headquarters to Fae. When an attempt was made on the King's life, the entire royal body moved to the small town and the richer circles of Fae knew exactly what to expect from the young prince. In the few months he has been in the town, he has been approached by every eligible female in the area and takes quite a delight in his reputation.
While, during his childhood, the Royal Castle's grounds were large enough to entertain Char, as he has grown up, and especially now that he is in the smaller grounds of the Fae Royal Palace, he seeks the outdoors world. With his brother so perfectly groomed to take the throne, Char feels no need to be a part of the royal family or its traditions. Instead, he wishes to explore the world, possibly through the military route. As such though, he is disallowed to leave the vicinity of his family and potentially his throne until his brother has ascended to the role of King and produced a legitimate heir. Therefore, and therein, he is currently stuck in Fae until the King states otherwise.
When Char's sister was born, when he was six, Char found another purpose to his life, one which he still lives out now. And that is to play older brother to little Elizabeth. "Lizzy" as he calls her loves both of her brothers dearly but with Edward's constant training and social expectation, she spends the majority of her sibling time with Char. Char takes his duties as older brother very seriously and always has, but, as Lizzy begins to grow up, he is recognising that she no longer needs his protection, is capable of protecting herself, and that he is becoming more or less superfluous. Especially now that she is reaching the age to be married. This lack of need is causing him to be wayward and antsy as he tries to work out what to do with his life next. LINKING BACK
- Reading. In the movie Ella Enchanted Char has an interest in reading: specifically, as my version of Char does, teen and women's magazines. He mentions at one point in the film that Ella shouldn't believe everything she reads and in another he is riding in a carriage with his uncle reading a Medieval version of something akin to Cosmo Girl.
- His relations with women. Though I have made my Char a little more comfortable around women and at dealing with them, both Chars are forced to handle large mobs of screaming or manipulating women, most especially in the noble levels of society.
- Char's dislike of entertainers comes from a dislike of everything being glossed and pretended as perfect. As this is what happens to Char a lot in Ella Enchanted - as in, his vision of the world is glossed by his uncle to keep him from asking questions, I thought this appropriate as a dislike of his.
- Dislike of carriage travel. The only time Char is seen, in the film, in a carriage, he is sulky and annoyed at the idea of going to Frell. When allowed to travel how he wants he goes by horseback. I thereby extrapolated that into his dislike for riding around in carriages.
- His refusal to accept responsibility. Like Charmont pushes important issues onto his uncle, in the film, Charles does the same with his brother. As he is not the heir to the throne, he sees no reason in becoming involved in politics or important decisions and hasn't really adjusted to his role in life.
- Sword fighting and lance-spinning. These are Charmont's too many methods of fighting in the Ella Enchanted movie and I have used them in this version of Char also.
- Hero complex/traditional view. Charmont mentions several times to Ella how he is chivalrous and her ungrateful as well as pointing out that he saves her quite a lot. Charmont is also a little uncertain as to how to deal with Ella, a highly independent and intelligent woman.
- Over-emotional. At certain points in the movie, Charmont becomes rather emotional, such as his tearing eyes whenever his father is mentioned, his falling hook, line and sinker so rapidly for Ella and his broken hearted reaction to her letter. This is the same for Charles when he actually finds something he cares for. Otherwise he blows off emotion and deep thought and tries to live life as carefree as possible.
- Being raised without restraint: Charmont's attitude toward and understanding of the world is a little narrow and unrefined in the movie, as he has taken little interest in the kingdom that will one day be his. This has not been encouraged by his uncle due to his malicious plans for a coup d'etat and I have taken this as the parenting stance of Charles' parents because of his Second Son position in the family.
- Opinions of social ideology: Both Char's are aware of and interested in equality and radical social ideas but neither see a way of implementing them and so mark them down as being fanciful or unrealistic (as Charmont does at the start of Ella Enchanted).
- Dislike for stages: Charles dislikes getting up on stage and being made to play the part of "Prince" just like Charmont.
- Inability to read people: This comes from the fact that Char is, for the most part of Ella Enchanted the victim of his controlling and manipulative uncle.

"You gonna be alright Anna?"
Cia ground her teeth. She hated that nickname. Miss Haydin, daughter of the high-profile politician Hillary Haydin bent low to fasten her trainers. They were fat and bulky; skater sneakers, but they worked with the performance theme. Sitting on the hard bench, Cia didn't look at her co-dancer as she spoke.
"I'm fine Laurie, I only twisted it yesterday; nothing's broken or sprained." She looked up a little, her dark hair falling softly to frame her face. Her fingers were still routinely tying her laces. She smiled a little and then turned her attention back to her feet. The girl standing beside her, with long blonde hair pulled into a braid was typical of teenagers in Uptown. Her skin was flawless from the money spent on cosmetics and her teeth perfectly even. Her hair was in glossy condition and probably the pride of her appearance when it hung loose in a shiny curtain down her back. Cia couldn't understand girls' liking for long tendrils; they just bugged her. Her own mop of naturally straight hair cut short about an inch off of her chin.
"You should be more careful on the stairs." Was Laurie's reply. Cia just gave a tight smile. There wasn't any way she could tell the girl that she hadn't actually fallen down the stairs. That had been a cover story. Instead, she had had an argument with her father, as was usual on a friday afternoon and slammed the front door on her way out. She'd pulled her wrist in the force she had exerted on the handle. Damnit. She had closed that door with a loud bang every day she'd had a dance practice and yet it was the day before the concert performance that it caused her an injury. Just her luck. Somehow it seemed as if that house gave her more trouble than it was worth. She hated it.
But it wasn't exactly as if she could move out. What would the press and papers say? Mrs Haydin, major player in the local government, can't control her own daughter. Row ensued at their place of residence as young Miss Haydin left in a storming fury... Great. She'd never hear the end of it. She hated being in that house but she hated the idea of causing a media scandal even more. She only ever associated with people from Uptown and would never see the end of the whispers and looks. Not to mention that she'd damage her mother's career. She might not like the woman but she wasn't about to maliciously set out to harm the one thing Hillary Haydin cherished. Yeah... definitely the thing she most cherished. Cia didn't think she even made it into the top ten. But then she tended to prefer it that way so who was she to complain? At least the distance from her mother meant that she could live a relatively independant life without worry. It would have been really annoying if her mother was still trying to convert her into a mini-politician. Cia was lucky that the woman had realised that she was a lost cause and given up.
Finishing with her laces Cia uncurled her lean frame from where she had been sitting on the wooden bench and stood at her full 5 foot 7. She wasn't the tallest person around but she was tall enough. She shook her feet out a little to loosen up her legs the large khaki pants she was wearing shaking about. They cut off just below her knee similar to surfer shorts, leaving her shapely calves on display. Her top half was clad in a simple white, fitted, vest top. On her wrists were sweat bands and a fake tattoo was transfered onto one bicep. Her make-up was a little excessive so that the audience could see her expression. Looking around her, everyone else was dressed in a similar fashion. Dropping her gaze to the bench she had just vacated Cia stooped and picked up the large gangster-style baseball hat and pulled it on, slightly off-center. Around her neck hung a slim silver chain.
Cia moved towards one of the large mirrors lining the back wall and stood before one analysing her appearance and costume. She didn't usually wear these kinda of clothes but she was performing a street-come-break dance on stage in the next half hour and she had to be dressed for the part. Laurie came up behind her.
"That style suits you so much better than me Anna. I can't understand why they made us dress this way; it's utterly aweful." Cia resisted rolling her eyes. It was true that her black hair and pale skin gave her a tougher and rougher appearance than the other girls in the changing rooms. Many of them were also giving their attire a reproachful glare. They hadn't signed up for this performance. Instead they had joined the dance group for pilates and ballet. Cia had enjoyed the formal dance just as much as they had but she was the only one who had managed to hold onto her joy when the regime moved onto street dancing. She, in fact, loved this style more than ballet. She felt that you were a lot freer to express yourself with something that didn't have so many techniques and appropriate rules of movement.
Cia didn't really bother to give Lauria an answer but that was okay. The girl didn't really need one. They had all learnt that Cia was quite quiet and never said anything unless she had something profound to communicate. The truth was she just didn't enjoy engaging in idle gossip like this girls did. She just didn't fit in with the heiress cliche. Instead she had a wilder and more creative spirit from her aunt that she harboured, fed, and fueled as much as possible. She believed it was what made her different, and reveled in it. She was proud of her reckless psyche. That didn't stop her from knowing, however, that it was unappropriate in certain circles, such as these. She knew when not to cross the line.
A yell called over the heads of the girls milling around Cia, and Cia's spine straightened a little.
"Alright girls! You know what you're doing! Cia I want you up frotn on the right; you know when to move to the center. Aim for about a metre from the right edge of the stage!"
Cia nodded. "Yes Ma'am!"
Her teacher, Madam Jenson, then moved on to instruct the others in exactly the position they would be standing in regards to the stage they were performing on. Cia shook out her hands a little and blew a breath out between tight lips. She felt, as usual, all her anxiety leave her as she strode forwards through the crowd and out onto the stage. She couldn't see anything of the audience as they were seperated from the dancers by a deep red curtain. Placing herself in the right position Cia listened to the hubb-bubb and general chatter seeping through the thick velvet towards her. The hall they were performing in was famous for it's performances by the talented young. Many talent scouts and company officials visited certain performances that could hold teenagers they look for. It was the dream of many a young girl to perform on that stage and be chosen. It was a one-in-a-million chance but they still dreamed. Cia didn't bother. She wasn't really sure where her life was going or what she was going to do with it but she did know that she danced simply because the physical exertion of it made her feel good; alive. It made her feel... dirty. It was like her entire existence had been clean and perfect. Money, nice clothes, etc. When she danced she became hot, sweaty and it made her feel tougher and stronger. She put her all into every performance so that she could feel pleased with her effort.
Shaking out her hands and feet again, Cia looked down at the large trainers she wore and tried to block out the noise from the crowds. She needed to focus solely on the music and her co-dancers if she was going to make a success of the performance. She knew, anyway that there was no-one in the audience to watch her but she didn't care. She wasn't going to let her lack of parental support stop her from feeling strong.
Cia turned her head and watched as the other girls, and some boys, moved out onto the stage into their positions. Laurie had the central position for this one but Cia knew that it wouldn't be for long. All three of them; Cia, Lauria and another girl Hydi would be getting the front spotlight, but Cia had the harder routine to pull off in it. Hers involved actual break dancing. That's why she was the only one wearing a hat- it was easier when your hair wasn't in the way. Now, the black strands were forced to remain down by her face, rather than fly about at the speed of her movements.
"Start positions" Called a voice and Cia bent into the correct pose. She started in a crouched position, one leg extended straight. One hand was on the groud fingers splayed while the other shot up behind her. Her face was pointed forwards. She was ready.
Cia heard the mircophone on the other side of the curtain be tapped and waited patiently, her muscles tensing, ready to hold the position until the third beat of the music. A calm, male voice introduced them as a dance company group and the music began. Hard, thumping beats resonated out of speakers and the curtains moved back, momentarily blinding Cia as the main lights shone down on them. Then, as her que came through the music Cia began to move.
